The Road to Congress Runs Through Tom Kean’s Hometown

Westfield Democrats mobilize for Rebecca Bennett with a series of campaign events and high-profile appearances in the final days before Election Day

WESTFIELD, N.J. — The road to Congress runs through Westfield, the hometown of Republican Congressman Tom Kean Jr., and the Westfield Democratic Committee is making sure voters have every opportunity to help send Democrat Rebecca Bennett to Washington.

Bennett has made repeated visits to Westfield throughout the campaign, building relationships with local voters and rallying volunteers to help flip New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. With Election Day approaching, she is returning to town for a series of events, including appearances with prominent Democratic leaders.

The final stretch began Tuesday evening with a canvass launch at the People’s Patio, the home of Westfield Democratic Committee Chair Bruno Tedeschi. On Wednesday morning, Bennett met commuters at the NJ Transit Westfield train station as they headed to work in New York City.

Bennett will return to Westfield on Sunday with U.S. Sen. Andy Kim. On Monday, she will join former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel for a second appearance at the People’s Patio. The campaign will return to the same location for another canvass launch on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

“Tom Kean lives here in Westfield, and our town has an opportunity to play a major role in defeating him,” said Tedeschi. “Rebecca understands how important this community is to winning NJ-07, and she keeps coming back because she knows Westfield Democrats are ready to work. We're seeing tremendous energy from volunteers who want to help send Rebecca to Congress, and we're going to keep that momentum going through Election Day.”

Although Westfield is Kean's hometown, Westfield has favored the Democratic Congressional candidate in previous elections. In 2022, Democrat Tom Malinowski received 8,811 votes in Westfield, defeating Kean by 3,849 votes. In 2024, Democrat Sue Altman won the town by 3,038 votes, receiving 10,495 votes to Kean’s 7,457.

Tedeschi said the goal this year is to build on that record and maximize Democratic turnout in Kean’s hometown.

“We need to run up the numbers in Westfield,” Tedeschi said. “Our voters are ready to turn out in big numbers for a strong candidate like Rebecca. We know what this town can deliver, and every additional vote matters in a race this competitive. If we want to flip this seat, we need Westfield Democrats to show up, bring their friends and neighbors along, and make sure everyone who supports Rebecca casts a ballot.”

The Westfield Democratic Committee is encouraging residents to volunteer for canvassing and other get-out-the-vote activities in the final days of the campaign. Volunteers can get involved by visiting the Westfield Democratic Committee website.
