“Hate has no place in Trenton”-Councilman Blakeley

Trenton N.J. – Trenton At-Large Councilman Jerell Blakeley is calling for the resignation of Trenton South Ward Councilman George Muschal for his embracing of vile Anti-Semitic rhetoric and tropes.

In response to the reported Anti-Semitic comments by Trenton City Council President Kathy McBride, Councilman George Muschal doubled down on despicable Anti-Semitic rhetoric.  In a recent interview with the New Jersey Globe online publication, Councilman Muschal excused Council President McBride’s comments as mere “statements of speech”.

Not content with just excusing Council President McBride’s comments, Councilman Muschal then independently, unabashedly, and unapologetically embraces the vile Anti-Semitic trope, saying “You know, it’s like a car dealer, they wanted $5,000, you Jew ‘em down to $4,000, It’s nothing vicious.  The expression has been said millions of times.”  Going further, Councilman Muschal then embraces another Anti-Semitic trope, stating “It wasn’t nothing maliciously done.  It was about money.  That’s why they said Jew them down.”

Councilman Blakeley stated “Councilman Muschal should immediately resign for his despicable comments.  Councilman Muschal’s unrepentant and unapologetically vile Anti-Semitic rhetoric has no place in American political discourse.  His comments rely on dangerous Anti-Semitic tropes of Jews as parsimonious and swindlers.  With Anti-Semitic attacks and hate crimes on the rise, I cannot stand silent on this issue.  His comments have brought embarrassment and shame to the Trenton City Council and his constituents.  His vicious Anti-Semitism has no place on Trenton City Council.  God knows what other “statements of speech” he finds appropriate for the public square.”

Additionally, Councilman Blakeley plans on introducing a censure motion for Councilman Muschal’s comments.  Councilman Blakeley believes that “Councilman Muschal’s Anti-Semitic rhetoric is an affront to Trentonians of all backgrounds and an example of the coarsening of modern political discourse.  Elected officials are duty bound to uphold basic values of respect for all Trentonians and at a minimum must not engage is blatantly bigoted rhetoric.  Trenton must soundly reject Councilman Muschal’s divisive rhetoric.”
