Tucker Organizes Annual North Jersey ‘Stand Down’ Event for Homeless NJ Veterans
Various Agencies, Organizations Will Gather to Provide Free Assistance to Vets
(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) will join federal, state, public and private support agencies on Saturday, October 12 to provide a range of services to veterans in need during this year’s North Jersey Stand Down For Homeless Veterans event in Newark.
Each year, Tucker collaborates with GI Go Fund to organize a one-day event where various organizations and individual volunteers provide homeless veterans with support aimed at alleviating their burdens and finding long-term solutions.
Available services will include mental health and addiction counseling, information on navigating social security, food stamp and VA benefits, job training and legal advice. Volunteers will also offer free meals, haircuts, clothing and other provisions to the attending veterans.
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Recreation Center at 211 West Kinney St. in Newark. Free transportation is available for veterans at twelve locations throughout the state.
