UTCA STATEMENT ON ANTICIPATED GATEWAY PROJECT BIDS
Farmingdale – Utility and Transportation Contractors Association (UTCA) Executive Director Dave Rible released the following statement today on the Gateway Development Commission’s plan to accept bids to begin construction of the Gateway Project:
“The Gateway project has taken a critical step forward with bids to construct the project’s initial Hudson River Ground Stabilization Package expected in the coming weeks. After years of planning, Gateway is becoming a reality that will provide tens of thousands of jobs, beginning with shovels in the ground in 2024.
“Initial phases of construction will carefully approach the project’s complex early work and stabilize the Hudson River Bottom to improve boring conditions and protect endangered species. The decision to divide construction into four phases will also ensure a qualified and competitive bidding pool.
“Gateway is a complex and historic undertaking. Approaching construction incrementally will expedite the benefits of this project for the tri-state region and beyond, including creating 72,000 jobs, generating more than $19 billion in economic benefits, and easing congestion for the 200,000 passengers who rely on this route every day.”
