WED: Empower NJ Press Conference on Energy Master Plan

The New Jersey Sierra Club will join state legislators and environmental groups at a rally and press conference to push for renewable energy. The event is in response to BPU’s EMP. The report highlights the many problems with the EMP, including the failure to call for a moratorium on all fossil-fuel infrastructure projects in the state. If 15 proposed pipelines, power plants and LNG ports are built, greenhouse gases will increase 32% and block us from reaching 100% renewable energy.

“We are in a climate crisis and its impacts will be even worse if New Jersey builds more fossil fuel projects. New Jersey needs to take bold steps to reduce harmful GHG’s and move forward toward reaching 100% renewable energy. We cannot get there if Governor Murphy defines clean energy as dirty energy. That’s like having a steak dinner and saying it’s vegetarian. The Murphy administration needs to start acting much more aggressively to combat climate impacts and improve our resiliency. That is why Governor Murphy must put in place a moratorium on all new fossil fuel project. We need a time out to put in place programs to reduce greenhouse gases and get to 100% renewable. We need to catch up to combat climate change before it is too late,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club.
