TRENTON, April 9 — New Jersey Future today announced that Wendy Kelman Neu, the chairwoman and chief executive officer of the Hugo Neu Corporation, will be honored with the organization’s 2019 W. Cary Edwards Leadership Award.
The award is presented each year at the New Jersey Future Smart Growth Awards celebration to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to improving quality of life and promoting smart, sustainable growth in New Jersey.
“Wendy Neu as an entrepreneur has focused on social and environmental sustainability and justice, not in addition to business success but as integral to it,” said New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach. “If you look at Kearny Point, you see so much more than a real estate development — it’s a job training center, an incubator for minority- and women-owned businesses, an innovative, future-facing repurposing of buildings that could easily have been knocked down after Hurricane Sandy, and a series of climate-resilient public amenities including an amphitheater and a waterfront park. Kearny Point is a success precisely because of Wendy’s commitment to sustainability and justice. She is a model of how to create a ‘positive wake’ of better land-use practices and better business practices that will last for generations to come. We’re thrilled to present her with this award.”
Ms. Neu will be honored along with the Smart Growth Award project winners at the celebration on Wednesday, June 5, at the Newark Museum. |
