Wimberly Joins Fellow Lawmakers in Calling for

Bergen Sheriff Saudino to Resign

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly (D-Bergen, Passaic) issued the following statement calling for the resignation of Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino:

“Unfortunately, this is just the latest display of racism, bigotry and hateful rhetoric we have heard recently in this country.  Let’s be clear, it’s not alright. No apology can take it back and it will not be ignored or tolerated in our state.

“For a top New Jersey law officer to feel this way about those representing our communities, our state as a whole and in one of the most diverse state’s in this country, it lends to question his capability to lead and uphold the law without bias and prejudice. When many communities are already distrusting of police, hearing an officer of the law using discriminatory language like this does not help rebuild that trust.”
