Wisniewski Statement on Middlesex County Democratic Gubernatorial Forum Boycott

John Wisniewski released the following statement via email regarding the Middlesex County Democratic gubernatorial forum (read Chairman McCabe’s statement here) tonight:

‘After a great deal of deliberation, I regret to inform you that I will be boycotting the Middlesex County Democratic Gubernatorial forum tomorrow. While I am eager to compete on an even playing field with my fellow candidates and share with you my vision for the future of our party and our state, Middlesex County Chairman Kevin McCabe has made it clear he will not tolerate a democratic process for determining who Middlesex County supports for Governor.’

‘Chairman McCabe has rigged the rules to ensure he gets the result he wants. He has eliminated the secret ballot, a core value of any democracy, and determined he will not be bound by the results. He has also banned the media from attending.  It is all part of a larger campaign by a handful of party bosses to coronate one candidate, while harassing and intimidating anyone who dares to support any candidate other than their own.’

‘Too many of our party’s so-called leaders think our nomination for Governor is for sale to the highest bidder. Instead of proudly representing the men and women who sweat and struggle to earn a living and provide for a family, too many bow to those who can hire lobbyists and write checks. We’ve lost our way as a party.’

‘Most of you know my story: I have been a Democrat since before I could even vote. Middlesex County voters have elected me to serve in the Assembly for over twenty years. At a time when Democrats in New Jersey cowered in the face of our Governor, I stood up and fought. I’ve earned my way up through the ranks.’

‘I’m fighting to represent the values that make our party great. I’m fighting for the principle that everyone, regardless of the balance in his or her bank account, has an equal opportunity. I take up this fight because there are principles at stake and we can make a difference.’

‘Middlesex County’s Democratic leadership’s support in this Governor’s race is already preordained. It doesn’t matter.  I will take this fight to an audience that can freely vote their conscious and I will continue fighting until you can vote yours in our Democratic Primary on June 6th.’

‘I am fighting to win this race. I hope I can count on your support when it matters.’
