Yousef Saleh Files Over 1,000 Nominating Petitions for Ward D Council Special Election
Massive Number of Petitions Shows Saleh’s Strong Community Support, Organizational Prowess
JERSEY CITY, NJ -- Councilman Yousef J. Saleh has officially filed nominating petitions for the upcoming Special Election for Jersey City’s Ward D Council seat that will be held in November. Saleh filed over 1,000 signed petitions, over ten times the required number of signatures to be placed on the ballot. The massive haul of signatures shows both Councilman Saleh’s strong support in the Heights community where he was born and raised, as well as the organizational prowess of his campaign which was able to secure this impressive signature total while observing social distancing practices and operating safely.
“This outpouring of support from so many of my friends, neighbors and fellow residents of the Jersey City Heights is a true testament to the diverse coalition that is supporting our campaign, from people who grew up here to those who arrived more recently, and across all races and political backgrounds,” said Councilman Saleh. “I want to thank each and every member of our community who signed our petition for the faith they have entrusted in me and I pledge to work as hard as I can to live up to the commitments I’ve made to them while earning the support of as many more residents of Ward D as I can.”
The son of immigrants who moved to Jersey City to give their family a better life, Councilman Saleh is a born and raised resident of the Heights who is truly devoted to making his neighborhood an even better place to live, work and raise a family. He was appointed to the City Council following the tragic death of Councilman Michael Yun due to COVID-19. Councilman Saleh has the strong support of Mayor Steven Fulop and is running in the election as a member of “Team Fulop.”
“Yousef is already establishing himself as a responsive, thoughtful elected official and someone that the Heights and all of Jersey City can count on,” said Mayor Fulop. “I’m glad to see his campaign launching with such a show of strength and I look forward to continuing to support him."
