Analilia Mejia Wins Democratic Nomination for NJ-11 Special Election

After AP called race, Analilia Mejia thanked voters and volunteers: “This was a race about the future of our country and the future of our party, and the voters sent a clear message. It's time to take on MAGA and take our country back.”

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Associated Press has officially called the Democratic primary in New Jersey's 11th Congressional District for Analilia Mejia.

In response to being declared the winner, Democratic nominee Analilia Mejia released the following statement:

“This was a race about the future of our country and the future of our party, and the voters sent a clear message. They want leaders who are unbought, unbossed, and ready to take our country back from the billionaires and MAGA extremists.

“The pundits counted us out, but what they don’t understand is that I’m an organizer. I was talking to voters at train stations, at their doors, and at town halls every single day, and they weren’t asking for incremental change. People understand that the system is rigged against them, and they want someone who will fight like hell to make it work for all of us.

“This is a people-powered campaign through and through, and I want to thank everyone who made this possible. To all of the voters, my friends and neighbors, my union brothers and sisters, and all of our volunteers who knocked on doors in the cold, made phone calls, and organized your neighbors, this is your victory. We just proved what people power can do when we refuse to give up.

“The primary is now over, but the real fight is just beginning. I’m grateful to all of the candidates who ran in this race, and I look forward to working alongside Governor Mikie Sherrill and our Democratic congressional delegation to unite our party and defeat the MAGA Republicans in April and November.

“Donald Trump and his billionaire friends are destroying our democracy, and we need every single person in this district to stop them. Whether you supported me in this primary or someone else, I need you to stand with us now because we're going to need everyone in this fight. Let's get to work."
