COMMUNITY RALLIES AGAINST ICE VIOLENCE, DEMANDS LEGISLATIVE ACTION TO END IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT ABUSE

[Jersey City, NJ] — Today, community organizations, local elected leaders, immigrant justice advocates, and residents gathered in solidarity to condemn ongoing aggression by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and to lift up three transformative bills currently advancing in the state legislature — A6308, A6309, and A6310. The rally, organized by Spirit of Liberation JC, was convened in response to the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was killed by an ICE agent during a federal immigration enforcement action in Minneapolis earlier this week.

Speakers at the rally condemned ICE’s actions as part of a broader pattern of unchecked federal force that disproportionately harms immigrant communities and anyone who stands with them. They called for immediate legislative action to restrict ICE’s authority, strengthen community protections, and ensure accountability for acts of violence committed by federal immigration agents.

“We are here to say no more — no more terror, no more deaths, no more families shattered,” said Paul Jaigua, rally coordinator. “Today we stand for immigrant dignity and for laws that protect our neighbors, not harm them.”

The three bills highlighted at the rally — A6308, A6309, and A6310 — seek to establish meaningful limits on ICE enforcement within the state, expand rights and due process protections for immigrants, and create mechanisms for oversight and accountability of federal immigration agents operating locally. Rally participants called on State Legislators to pass these bills swiftly and urged the governor to sign them into law.

The event also served as a call to action for ongoing community support of those targeted by ICE. Participants learned how to join the local rapid response network and engage with mutual aid efforts based at Delaney Hall, where volunteers are organizing resources, support, and protection for immigrants facing threats of detention or violence.

Organizers noted that the rally follows a wave of protests across the country after the death of Renee Good, whose killing has ignited demands for federal accountability and intensified scrutiny of ICE’s role in domestic communities.
