Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., MD Statement on the Passing of Gilbert Lugossy

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., MD released the following statement on the passing of Gilbert Lugossy:

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Gilbert “Gil” Lugossy, a dedicated public servant and pillar of Mercer County, who spent decades serving the people of Hamilton and the broader community.

“Gil Lugossy devoted his life to public service—from the Hamilton Township Board of Education to the Mercer County Board of Freeholders, and through his many years as Mercer County Sheriff. In every role, he earned a reputation for integrity, humility, and a deep commitment to the people he served. Beyond his long record of service, Gil was known for his kindness, his respect for others, and his genuine love for his community. He represented the very best of what it means to serve, always putting people first and leading with character.

“His legacy will live on in Mercer County through the many lives he touched and the institutions he helped strengthen over the course of his career. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.”
