(TRENTON) — Speaker Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex) has announced Dan Harris will become the Executive Director of the Assembly Majority Office next month. Harris, the current Deputy Executive Director and Chief of Staff to the Speaker, will succeed Seth Hahn, who is leaving to pursue other professional interests.
Speaker Coughlin also announced that Stephan Lally, currently his Deputy Chief of Staff, is being promoted to serve in the role vacated by Harris.
“I’m thrilled to announce these new roles for Dan and Stephan, who I’ve worked closely with for many years. Under Dan’s leadership, we will continue our work on a legislative agenda that puts New Jerseyans first, with a focus on kitchen table issues including making New Jersey more affordable,” said Speaker Coughlin. “I’m also delighted to announce this new role for Stephan, who will work to deepen our relationships with the entire caucus, support our district offices and compliment an already stellar senior staff.”
"I'm honored to be selected by Speaker Coughlin to lead the day-to-day operations of the Assembly Democratic Caucus,” said Harris. “I'm blessed to be surrounded by an incredible team of committed professionals and to have learned under my predecessors Seth Hahn and Skip Cimino. I'm certain our 57-member caucus will remain steadfast in our commitment to the Speaker's affordability agenda. While our caucus has been electorally successful, we must not lose sight that our work remains–the school funding formula needs modernizing, healthcare inflation remains a threat to business and government budgets, and New Jersey families and businesses face their stiffest competition yet for investment and jobs from domestic and foreign competitors as well as from artificial intelligence advancements."
“I am deeply grateful to Speaker Coughlin for his confidence in me and for the opportunity to serve in this new capacity,” said Lally. “It has been a privilege to work alongside the Speaker, our members and the talented professionals of the Assembly Majority Office. I look forward to strengthening our partnership with the caucus, supporting our district offices and helping advance an agenda that responds directly to the needs of New Jersey’s families. I am excited to work with Dan in his new role and the rest of our leadership team as we continue serving the people of this State.”
Harris, a Saint Joseph's University graduate, has worked for Speaker Coughlin for all 17 years of his legislative service in both the Majority Office and joint district office with Senator Vitale and Assemblywoman Lopez. Harris also serves as an At-Large Councilman in his hometown of Woodbridge Township following more than twelve years on the Board of Education.
Lally, a Ramapo College graduate, has worked for Speaker Coughlin since 2020 in several roles including Director of Appointments. He currently serves as a member of the Woodbridge School Board, and as a board member of the Ramapo College board of trustees.
