ELEC: Big Six Fundraising Holds Steady Through September 30

The so-called “Big Six” fundraising committees- the two state parties and four legislative leadership committees- are continuing to raise funds at a healthy pace nine months into 2026, according to disclosure reports filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).
Big Six committees historically have raised more funds during election years when the gubernatorial office, state legislative seats, or both are in play. The latest numbers, however, show they are doing well compared to past years without state elections.
The committees raised a combined $4.5 million through September 30, 2026. That represents 43 percent more than the average for five similar election years since 2015 when federal rather than state candidates dominated the ballot. The latest numbers also show committees have substantially more cash reserves than in the past.

At least two factors may help explain the current good fortunes of the Big Six committees.
One is that they received a combined $4.3 million in funds from national political committees in 2025 during the most expensive New Jersey governor’s race in history.
An ELEC analysis in March also showed that fundraising by Big Six committees has been boosted by the Elections Transparency Act (P.L. 2023, c.30). The statute substantially increased political contribution limits that apply to the Big Six for the first time since 2005.
Through the first nine months this year, Democrats are the major beneficiaries. They have raised 3.8 times more funds than Republicans, spent 5.6 times more and have three times more cash-on-hand.
