Rep. Tom Kean Jr. Can’t Outrun His Record Harming New Jerseyans’ Health Care

Today, U.S. House Republican Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) flipped to vote with Democrats on the Affordable Care Act extension — not because he cares about New Jerseyans’ health care, but because he knows how politically toxic his party’s crusade to eliminate health care will be in midterm elections. Nearly half of voters across the board call an elected official voting to cut Medicaid a major dealbreaker in 2026.

Let’s be clear: Tom Kean Jr. has his own record of harming New Jerseyans and their health care, and he’s using this vote as an attempt to distract voters from it.

Rep. Tom Kean Jr.:

  • Voted for the 2025 budget bill that allowed Affordable Care Act tax credits to expire, skyrocketing Americans’ monthly health care premiums by 114% on average.
  • Voted to take health care insurance away from almost 20,000 of his constituents by supporting the largest cuts to Medicaid in American history.
  • Failed to deliver funding for rural health care facilities across New Jersey, which came dead last in funding under a new federal program created by Trump.
  • Voted for a bill that saves insurance companies money by making workers pay more for their health care coverage, and undermines protections for people with preexisting health conditions.
  • Voted to undermine fair drug pricing and affordable health care, drive up the costs of federal health programs like Medicaid and Medicare, and cut funding for preventative health care.
