Gloucester Township Republicans Condemn Record $60.75 Billion State Budget and Local Tax Hikes Burdening Township Families

Gloucester Township, NJ — Gloucester Township Republicans today sharply criticized the recently enacted New Jersey FY2027 state budget, calling it a continuation of failed policies that prioritize special interests and career politician reelection efforts over relief for hardworking families.
Governor Mikie Sherrill and Democratic leaders pushed through a record $60.75 billion spending plan that relies on hundreds of millions in new business revenue measures, including significant deduction caps and employer fees tied to Medicaid.

While claiming no broad tax increases on individuals, the budget draws on surplus funds amid a lingering structural deficit and includes hundreds of millions in last-minute legislative add-ons and targeted projects.

“LD4 legislators Senator Paul Moriarty, Assemblyman Dan Hutchison, and Assemblyman Cody Miller had an opportunity to deliver real property tax relief and address rising utility costs that are crushing families across Gloucester Township and Camden County,” said a spokesperson for Gloucester Township Republicans. “Instead, they focused on pork projects that serve their political interests rather than the people they were elected to represent.”

Compounding the burden at the local level, Gloucester Township Mayor Dave Mayer and Council President Orlando Mercado, along with the Township Council, recently advanced a municipal budget featuring a 13%+ tax increase. These career politicians at both the state and local levels continue to demonstrate a troubling lack of integrity and honesty with taxpayers. They promise affordability and fiscal responsibility while delivering bigger government, targeted giveaways, and higher costs for the very residents struggling under New Jersey’s already excessive tax load.

“Enough is enough,” Gloucester Township Republicans stated. “Gloucester Township families deserve honest leadership that puts our community first — not endless spending and excuses.”

Gloucester Township Republicans remain committed to fighting for lower taxes, meaningful spending restraint, and true accountability in Trenton and at the local level. Residents are encouraged to contact their legislators and local officials to demand better.
