HealthCare Institute of New Jersey statement on Governor Murphy’s innovation economy

Trenton, January 13, 2026 ― Chrissy Buteas, President and Chief Executive Officer of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ – www.hinj.org), released the following statement concerning Governor Murphy’s final State of the State address and innovation economy:

“New Jersey’s life sciences have valued the partnership with Governor Murphy as he strengthened New Jersey’s global leadership in innovation.  His vision fostered greater collaboration among public institutions, higher education, industry, and our workforce, culminating in the development of 12 Strategic Innovation Centers in New Jersey – purpose-built hubs designed to accelerate research, commercialization, and industry partnerships. Startups, established companies, academic researchers, and entrepreneurs can now work side by side throughout the state, particularly in high-growth sectors such as the life sciences, advanced manufacturing and technology.”

Buteas continued, “New Jersey is known as “The Medicine Chest of the World,” and Governor Murphy has expanded our research capacity, lab space, and translational science while improving our innovation infrastructure, talent pipelines, and precision manufacturing capabilities.  As the Governor outlines his final State of the State, he leaves New Jersey’s innovation economy with a stronger foundation than ever – one built on collaboration and strategic investment that readies the state for the next generation of economic growth and discovery.”
