Readers of Insider NJ are welcomed to the Rising Generations publication in its 8th edition, which recognizes and celebrates the younger, aspiring movers and shakers in their communities, be they local, county, or state. Some names found herein are familiar, while others may be new to Insider NJ’s audience.

All, however, are people whose efforts are building the future of the Garden State. While this publication focuses on Millennials, Generation Z, and the upcoming Generation Alpha, it is important to note that society, which is already polarized, would not be well served by being divided too strictly along generational labels. Nevertheless, generational identity has become an increasingly powerful element in 21st Century society.

The rising generations of today face new challenges in new formats that previous generations could never have imagined—the rise of AI, for example, might bring opportunities if harnessed correctly, but also existential environmental, labor, and psychological risks regarding the future of employment, media, and bringing into question objective truth itself when mere words can become convincing images and videos. But in other ways, Millennials, Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and the newest of all, Generation Beta, which was born on January 1, 2025, will confront many of the same hurdles, obstacles, and threats to freedom of expression, association, and their pursuit of happiness, as the generations which preceded them. History may not repeat, it is said, but it does rhyme.
