Today, Jerry Walker was officially sworn in as a Member of the New Jersey General Assembly, marking a powerful new chapter in a lifelong commitment to public service and community leadership.

A proud lifelong resident of Jersey City, Assemblyman Walker’s journey has been shaped by firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities facing working families in Hudson County. Those experiences fueled his commitment to service and laid the foundation for a career focused on equity, public safety, economic opportunity, and community empowerment.

Prior to his election to the New Jersey Assembly, Jerry Walker served eight years as a Hudson County Commissioner, where he became a leading voice on public safety, youth development, and community investment. During his tenure, he played a key role in securing and directing funding toward violence prevention initiatives, gang intervention programs, and partnerships with community-based organizations focused on outreach, mentorship, and conflict resolution. His work consistently centered on prevention, accountability, and strengthening trust between residents and government.

As Commissioner, Walker also championed workforce development and economic mobility, supporting job training programs, reentry services, and opportunities for young people and returning citizens to access meaningful employment.
