New Jersey LCV Applauds Decision to Drop Opening of Roxbury Detention Center

The following statement is from Allison McLeod, Interim Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, in response to reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is abandoning plans that would have converted the Roxbury warehouse into a detention center as part of a broader decision to divest several warehouse properties acquired for detention expansion.
“Communities across New Jersey have been saying from the beginning that major federal proposals like this should not move forward without fully considering their impacts on our environment, public resources and communities,” said Allison McLeod, Interim Executive Director of New Jersey LCV. “The reported decision to abandon plans for the Roxbury detention center is the right one. It safeguards drinking water for millions of residents and demonstrates the importance of environmental review and public accountability. We are grateful to the local leaders, residents, and advocates who stood up to raise their voices.”
