New Jersey State AFL-CIO Applauds the Nomination of Kevin Jarvis for Commissioner of Labor
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO proudly congratulates Kevin Jarvis, the former Legislative Affairs Coordinator of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, on his nomination as Commissioner of Labor.
Throughout his esteemed career, Mr. Jarvis has been respected for his commitment to advocating for all working people in our state. He began his career at the New Jersey General Assembly Democratic Office, where he worked as a Research Associate for committees on Labor, Health, State Government, and Human Services, and served as the Assistant Director of Constituent Relations and Assistant Director of Policy and Planning.
He then joined the New Jersey State AFL-CIO as Legislative Affairs Coordinator, working to advocate for legislation to benefit working families and improve working conditions, while attending law school at night. In 2001, he graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall School of Law.
He then went on to serve nearly four years as Chief of Staff at the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, where he oversaw a workforce of approximately 3,700 employees and a combined state and federal budget exceeding $600 million, while coordinating departmental policy with the Governor’s Office and Legislature.
Currently, Mr. Jarvis is a Partner with the Firm of O’Brien, Belland & Bushinsky, which he joined in February of 2010. Kevin focuses his practice on Labor Law, including contract negotiations, grievances and arbitration hearings, and unfair labor practice matters. He has appeared numerous times before the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”), the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission (“PERC”.)
We look forward to working with Governor Sherrill and Kevin Jarvis to continue to advance labor policy that benefits all working people by ensuring safe work environments, protections for workers' rights, and supports economic development. Honoring his father's legacy as a proud member of IAM Local 1812, Mr. Jarvis will continue his important life's work of advocacy for working families.
