Veteran NJ Educational Leader to Help Drive NJTC's Next Chapter of Statewide Expansion, Partnership Development, and Student Success

[New Jersey – June 15, 2026] The New Jersey Tutoring Corps (NJTC), one of the nation's leading high-impact tutoring and educational workforce development non-profits, announced today that veteran New Jersey educational leader Anthony Scotto has joined the organization as Director of Strategic Growth and Partnerships, a newly developed leadership position created to support NJTC's continued statewide growth and long-term impact.

Grounded in evidence and built for scale, NJTC has dramatically expanded its tutoring operations since its statewide launch three years ago, growing from serving 500 New Jersey scholars in its first year to over 16,000 across more than 200 locations. Initially established as a corrective response to the state's dramatic learning gaps exacerbated by the pandemic, the organization has become a focal point for implementing, operationalizing, and advocating for more high-impact tutoring across New Jersey.  In addition, NJTC's work has earned recognition as a national model for high-impact tutoring, educator workforce development, and innovative strategies that help students accelerate learning, close achievement gaps, and achieve long-term success.

As NJTC prepares for continued expansion across New Jersey and beyond, Scotto will help lead efforts to build the partnerships, relationships, and infrastructure necessary to bring the organization's proven model to even more students, schools, and communities.  Specifically, in the newly created role, he will cultivate strategic partnerships with school districts, institutions of higher education, community organizations, philanthropic leaders, and other stakeholders, while helping to identify new funding opportunities and growth initiatives that strengthen NJTC's statewide impact.  The addition of Scotto reflects NJTC's ongoing commitment to pairing educational excellence with strategic growth. As the organization continues to expand its partnerships and deepen its impact, his leadership will help ensure that more students, more schools, and more communities can benefit from the organization's proven approach to academic acceleration and educational opportunity.

Scotto joins NJTC following a distinguished career spanning nearly 32 years in public education, including more than two decades in senior district leadership positions focused on curriculum, instruction, educational equity, professional development, and student achievement. His experience spans virtually every corner of New Jersey's educational ecosystem—from classrooms and district offices to higher education institutions, statewide professional associations, and leadership development programs—making him uniquely positioned to help NJTC build the partnerships necessary to accelerate its mission and expand opportunities for students statewide.  Throughout his career, Scotto has led initiatives that expanded access to Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment opportunities, secured and managed millions of dollars in educational grant funding, strengthened professional learning systems for educators, and advanced instructional excellence across entire school districts.

Most recently, he served as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Hamilton Township School District, where he oversaw academic programming for more than 20 schools serving students from preschool through high school. A respected leader throughout New Jersey's educational community, Scotto has spent his career building relationships, advancing instructional excellence, and creating opportunities for students and educators alike. In addition to serving as a classroom teacher, curriculum leader, and district administrator, he has mentored aspiring school leaders, presented at conferences across the state, served on numerous statewide education boards and committees, and taught graduate-level educational leadership courses at both The College of New Jersey and Thomas Edison State University.

NJTC was created through an innovative public/private partnership, that united support from statewide anchor institutions such as the Overdeck Family Foundation, The Tepper Foundation, the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund, the New Jersey Children's Foundation, the Prudential Foundation, The Carlson Family Foundation, the Debra and Kenneth Caplan Foundation and investment from the State, through the continued support of  Senate Majority Leader Ruiz, Senate Education Committee Chair Gopal, and Assemblywoman Andrea Katz and Assembly Budget Chair Eliana Pintor Marin.  Throughout the school year, NJTC co-designs tutoring programs with schools, districts, and community partners, ensuring that its research-based, evidence-rich program meets each partner's needs. NJTC follows the recommendations of the Annenberg Institute and the National Student Support Accelerator for effective high-impact tutoring.  Specifically, staff members provide responsive, personalized, hands-on instruction aligned to New Jersey state standards. Partners co-design each implementation. Tutors are often embedded throughout classrooms during the school day and receive support from instructional coaches and site coordinators. Tutors serve scholars in 30- to 60-minute embedded sessions during the school day, after school, or in summer programs two to three times per week. The program provides a 1:1 to 1:4 tutor-to-scholar ratio for each tutoring session, with the same tutor working with the same scholars throughout a program cycle.
