Nikitas Moustakas Announces Candidacy for Burlington County Commissioner in Democratic Primary
MOUNT LAUREL, NJ (February 24, 2026)
Nikitas Moustakas, a Mount Laurel Councilmember, former Mayor, small business owner, and managing partner of Moustakas Nelson LLC, announced his candidacy for Burlington County Commissioner in the Democratic primary.
Moustakas has served on the Mount Laurel Township Council since 2021, including terms as Deputy Mayor and Mayor, and has worked across South Jersey to strengthen civic institutions and expand opportunity. He is a first-generation immigrant and a father of three who has built his career in public service and the private sector, bringing a practical, community-first approach to problem-solving.
“Burlington County deserves leadership that shows up, delivers services residents can count on, protects our quality of life, and keeps government efficient and accountable,” Moustakas said. “I’m running to make sure county government is responsive, transparent, and focused on the everyday needs of working families and seniors.”
If elected, Moustakas will focus on four core priorities:
- Affordability and social services: expanding housing options, supporting homelessness prevention, vocational training, food security, and access to healthcare, including mental health and addiction treatment.
- Flood prevention and infrastructure: coordinating with municipalities to build grant-ready projects that improve stormwater systems, roads, bridges, and culverts.
- Protecting open space and quality of life: preserving parks and farmland and ensuring responsible development that does not overload roads or strain emergency services and public resources.
- Protecting rights and democracy: ensuring accessible elections, defending reproductive freedom and LGBTQIA+ equality, and supporting evidence-based public health.
Moustakas emphasized that Burlington County succeeds when county and municipal government work as true partners. “Whether you live in a city, town, or rural community, you should feel confident that your county government is delivering consistent services and investing wisely for the long term,” he said.
