February 25, 2026
Bordentown, NJ – Citing his longstanding commitment to serving the residents of Burlington County, Rep. Herb Conaway (NJ-3) today endorsed Jonathan Chebra’s bid for Burlington County Commissioner. Dr. Conaway represents 38 of 40 towns in Burlington County.
“Working together for more than a decade, I’ve seen firsthand Jon’s contributions to Burlington County. He is a dedicated and thoughtful leader who will bring a wealth of experience to the role,” said Dr. Conaway. “During his time serving as my chief of staff in the legislature, Jon played a critical role in cutting through red tape for residents to make government more efficient and helped me advance landmark legislation to make healthcare more affordable. Since then, Jon has built on that experience to make our county libraries more accessible and improve social services for our communities across the state. You can trust Jon Chebra and count on him to serve honorably.”
Jonathan served as Conaway’s Chief of Staff when he served in the State Assembly.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of Burlington County’s own, Dr. Herb Conaway,” said Chebra. “As a trusted voice in Burlington County and beyond, I have been thankful for the impact we have been able to make together on the lives of our neighbors. I'm grateful for his leadership and look forward to continuing our work to make government more affordable, reliable and accessible for the families that call Burlington County home.”
About Jonathan:
Jonathan Chebra is running for County Commissioner to fight for Burlington County residents. He wants to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely, and county government operates with integrity and transparency.
Jon’s career has been about pursuing policies that make our community a healthier and more affordable place to live. As Dr. Herb Conaway’s Chief of Staff in the Assembly, Jon helped Herb pass landmark healthcare affordability legislation and stand up for reproductive rights. For the last six years, Jon served as Deputy Commissioner for New Jersey Human Services, where he worked to reduce overdoses by making Naloxone widely available, fight food insecurity by increasing SNAP food assistance benefits, and battle cuts to Medicaid.
For the past seven years, Jon has chaired the Burlington County Library Commission. In this volunteer leadership position, he worked to eliminate a budget deficit while also expanding services and programming. He’s stood up against attempts to ban books and ensured the library remains a welcoming and inclusive space. And Jon is incredibly proud of eliminating fines for late materials - making the county library a more accessible place for all.
Jon now wants to bring this experience to Burlington County. Making our communities more affordable places to live and stay, delivering county services with efficiency and compassion, and strengthening our community that we’re all proud of – and that our children can be proud to inherit.
Jon lives in Bordentown City with his wife, Hilary, their two young children, and dog, Ace.
