Rodriguez: Quijano Is the Most Qualified Choice for Union County Clerk

ELIZABETH, NJ — Assemblyman Ed Rodriguez (D-20) today released the following statement regarding the vacancy in the Office of the Union County Clerk:

“Joanne Rajoppi served Union County for three decades with a level of expertise in election administration that earned respect among her colleagues across the country and party lines. Her passing is a real loss for our state and county, and my condolences remain with her family.

“The Clerk’s office she built deserves a successor with the experience to continue that work. The County Clerk administers our election laws, maintains the county’s land records, and carries statutory responsibilities that demand real legal training. Should she seek the position, I can think of no one in Union County more qualified than Assemblywoman Annette Quijano. She is an attorney with nearly two decades of service in the Legislature, where she has spent her career writing and interpreting the very laws this office is charged with carrying out. Few people in this county can match her preparation for the specific duties of this office.

“If Assemblywoman Quijano puts her name forward, I would expect the members of the Union County Democratic Committee to look past any political considerations and select the most experienced person available. The residents of Union County deserve nothing less.”
