SEIU New Jersey State Council and SEIU 32BJ Condemn Supreme Court Decision Enabling Trump's Attack on Haitian and Syrian TPS Holders

Statement from the SEIU NJ State Council and SEIU 32BJ
NEWARK - The SEIU New Jersey State Council and SEIU 32BJ condemn today's U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing the Trump administration to move forward with terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for individuals from Haiti and Syria.
This ruling is a devastating blow to immigrant families, workers, and communities who have built their lives in the United States and followed every rule required of them. By giving the administration broad authority to strip humanitarian protections from vulnerable populations, the Court has enabled a dangerous agenda that threatens the stability of families, workplaces, and entire communities.
For decades, TPS holders from Haiti and Syria have lived and worked in this country, and in our State, raising families, paying taxes, and contributing to our economy. They care for patients in hospitals and nursing homes, maintain office buildings, move goods through warehouses and distribution centers, provide security services, and perform countless other essential jobs that keep New Jersey running every day.
The Trump administration's efforts to terminate TPS are not about strengthening our economy or supporting working families. They are part of a broader campaign to target
immigrant communities, create fear among workers, and divide people who should be united in the fight for good jobs, safe workplaces, and economic opportunity.
The Council and SEIU 32BJ stand in unwavering solidarity with Haitian and Syrian TPS holders and all immigrant workers facing attacks on their rights and dignity. We call on Congress and elected leaders at every level of government to pursue permanent protections for TPS holders and reject policies that destabilize families, weaken our workforce, and undermine the values of fairness and opportunity.
New Jersey's economy depends on the labor and contributions of immigrants, many of whom have spent years or decades building lives and careers in our state. Immigrant workers are our coworkers, neighbors, friends, and union siblings. As the SEIU New Jersey State Council, along with our brothers and sisters in SEIU 32BJ, we will continue fighting alongside immigrant communities to defend their rights, protect their families, and build a New Jersey where every worker is treated with dignity and respect.
