Senator Kim Announces Nearly $26 Million in Grants for Nonprofit and Faith-based Organizations Across New Jersey

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senator Andy Kim (D-N.J.), member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) and Ranking Member on the HSGAC Subcommittee for Disaster Management, District of Columbia, and Census, announced nearly $26 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program for nonprofits and faith-based organizations in New Jersey.

The funding, designed to help religious institutions and nonprofits increase security for facilities and communities, will be distributed by New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness to selected organizations across New Jersey later this year.

“Everyone has the right to practice their religion or gather in their community safely,” said Senator Kim. “I’m proud to help secure these grants to ensure that our communities have the resources needed to protect their facilities and worship in peace. I’ll continue to fight for these institutions and safeguard these vital programs, especially in the wake of increased threats at places of worship across New Jersey.”

As a member of the House and Senate, Senator Kim has worked together with nonprofit and faith leaders across New Jersey to advocate for additional funding to keep communities safe. He has recently convened roundtable discussions with faith leaders where he’s heard concerns about the lack of federal resources coming to our state. Because of that, Senator Kim has repeatedly asked for increased funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program and raised issues with senior officials at the Department of Homeland Security.
