Senator McKnight Applauds New NJ TRANSIT Development Project in Bayonne
TRENTON – Senator Angela V. McKnight (D-Hudson) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mikie Sherrill’s recently announced plans to transform unused land near the Bayonne-34th Street Station along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail into a Transit-Oriented Development.
“I am very happy to hear of the Governor’s plans for a new transit-oriented development that will bring an economic boost to Bayonne and create opportunities for thousands of residents. From affordable housing to job opportunities and commuter amenities, this community center will have something for everyone.
“People across the state are faced with an affordability crisis, and in Hudson County, we are always looking to do what we can to help. These plans indicate that a minimum of 20% of the housing in the development will be designated as low-and moderate-income housing, further creating opportunities for Bayonne residents.
"Compared to the two parking lots that currently occupy the space, the new community hub will create more useful resources for the thousands of daily commuters who travel from Bayonne to other hubs, including New York City and Jersey City. The parking, bus connections, bicycle infrastructure, and streetscape improvements will make Bayonne more inclusive for all types of commuters.”
