South Ward Councilman Patrick O. Council Announces 2026 Reelection Campaign for South Ward Council Seat

Slogan: “Let’s Continue Moving The South Ward Forward”

Newark, NJ- South Ward Councilman Patrick O. Council officially announced today that he is seeking reelection in 2026, running with Team Baraka, and reaffirming his commitment to the residents of the South Ward under the campaign slogan “Let’s Continue Moving The South Ward Forward”

First elected to serve the South Ward in 2022, Councilman Council has focused his tenure on delivering practical results, responsive leadership, and consistent advocacy for neighborhood priorities. His reelection campaign emphasizes continuity, accountability, and unfinished work that directly impacts families, seniors, and small businesses throughout the ward, in alignment with the values and vision of Mayor Ras J. Baraka.

“Serving the people of the South Ward has been an honor, and the work is far from done,” said Councilman Council. “From improving local services to strengthening our neighborhoods, I’m still working every day to make sure residents are heard and results are delivered.”

Throughout his tenure on the Council, he has championed affordable housing, advanced thoughtful legislation, invested in local nonprofits, enhanced public safety, addressed illegal construction and conversions, improved infrastructure, spurred economic development, and supported community programs, all while remaining highly visible and accessible to constituents.

The “Let’s Continue Moving The South Ward Forward” campaign reflects Councilman Council’s hands-on approach to leadership and his belief that effective public service means showing up, listening, and taking action, principles shared by Mayor Baraka’s commitment to equity, growth, and strong neighborhoods across Newark.

“I don’t see this role as a title, it’s a responsibility,” he added. “I’m running for reelection because the South Ward deserves leadership that doesn’t slow down.”

The 2026 campaign will focus on building upon past progress while addressing emerging challenges facing the South Ward and the city.
