The SEIU NJ State Council endorses Dr. Adam Hamawy for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th District

NEWARK, N.J. – The SEIU New Jersey State Council today announced its endorsement of Dr. Adam Hamawy for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District, citing his lifelong commitment to service and social justice.

“Working people need leaders who will stand up to corporate interests and fight for policies that raise wages, restore and protect healthcare, defend workers’ rights, and strengthen our communities,” said Megan Chambers, President of the SEIU New Jersey State Council and Co‑Manager of the Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board of Workers United, SEIU. “Dr. Hamawy has dedicated his life to serving others. His commitment to economic fairness, universal health care, safe staffing ratios in hospitals and nursing homes, and fair, sensible immigration policies demonstrates the values we share and need in Washington. SEIU members are proud to support his campaign and will be mobilizing to help send him to Congress.”

Dr. Hamawy, who emerged from a competitive Democratic primary, has identified his top priorities as protecting civil rights, advancing economic justice, ensuring healthcare is treated as a basic human right, ending childhood poverty, and challenging the current administration’s immigration system, which he argues harms families and communities.

“Across both his military service and his civilian medical career, Dr. Hamawy has consistently shown a deep commitment to public service,” said La'Tenya King, Vice President of 1199SEIU and Vice President of the SEIU New Jersey State Council. “At a time when the federal government claims to fight crime with masked agents and health care premiums for many are poised to double, we support Dr. Hamawy because he is a proven fighter with an impressive track record of getting things done. He understands the struggles of working families and will work for us, not special interests.”
