This Week from Senator Kim: Trump's Extortion Foreign Policy Takes his Mob Boss Politics Global

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Senator Kim defined the Trump administration's actions in Venezuela for what they are: extortion foreign policy driven by Trump’s personal interests instead of the needs or wishes of the American people. The Senator continued to outline the reality and concerns of the administration’s reckless policies:

On CNN’s Katy Tur Reports, Senator Kim addressed the inadequate classified briefing Trump administration officials gave to Senators today about the strikes:

“This was something Secretary Rubio made clear would go on for quite some time and refused to give us any type of relevant information about exactly what comes next...I left this briefing much more concerned about what comes next and I am absolutely certain that the American people do not want what we heard, which is a protracted American presence there; having our military used in this way for years to come.”

On The Brian Lehrer Show, WNYC, Senator Kim made clear the Trump administration took military action in Venezuela without the required authorization from Congress:

"This is all a ruse. This is all just them trying to find any and all possible ways to justify what they ultimately wanted to do. The goal of this was not about law enforcement. It was what I call an extortion foreign policy. These are just mob boss tactics that President Trump is using to use our military and our foreign policy for his own personal benefit...”

Later, he broke down how misaligned the Trump administration's actions are with the American people’s needs: “The argument is absolutely ridiculous. And if you take its logic going forward, it would basically be this new era of neo-imperialism that we’re undertaking. And no American that I’ve talked to wants to go in that kind of direction, especially when we’re facing such challenges.”

On MSNOW’s The Weeknight, Senator Kim spoke about how Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth, “blatantly lied to Congress” about regime change being a goal in Venezuela, and why:

“Every single Senator was in that room and they were lied to directly by the Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense. So I have a lot of concern, not just about what they’re saying to the American people but what they’re saying to the American people’s representatives in Congress. There’s a reason why Trump is not seeking congressional approval, because he knows that the American people are not with him. They know that the American people are sick and tired of these endless wars that we’ve gone through. I worked in diplomacy. I served in Afghanistan. I worked in Iraq. I am tired of this. The American people are tired of this.”

Speaking with Linsey Davis on ABC News Live, Senator Kim detailed the outstanding questions the administration needs to answer and his continued concerns:

“I have many many questions, first of all about the injuries that American servicemembers sustained or questions about what comes next and about what planning they have done for the different scenarios out there...How much is this costing the American people. We’re seeing estimates of literally millions of dollars every single day in terms of the cost that the American people are taking at a time when we have so many challenges at home with our own concerns of affordability.”
