ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY — U.S. Representative Analilia Mejia (NJ-11) joined Martín Soto and his wife, Gaby, to celebrate Martín’s release from immigration detention and his long-awaited reunion with his family.
Throughout Martín’s detention, Rep. Mejia and her office worked with Gaby to amplify his case and advocate for his release. While detained at Delaney Hall, Martín was a leader of a hunger strike demanding improved conditions and treatment for those held inside.
“What this family went through is an injustice that sadly is one example of many across this country,” said Rep. Mejia following Martín’s release. “But we know that when we fight as a community, when we unite, that we are able to overcome even the worst injustice.”
Martín’s release comes as Rep. Mejia continues to call for the closure of Delaney Hall, other for-profit detention centers, and the abolition of ICE in favor of a just and humane immigration system that protects due process and human dignity.
