U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) will attend the “People’s State of the Union” on the National Mall this evening, joining constituents, advocates, and her colleagues to elevate the voices of Americans directly impacted by the Trump Administration and their disastrous policies.

The event, organized by MoveOn and coalition partners, will focus on the real challenges families are facing - from rising costs, threats to healthcare access, attacks on immigrant communities, to the erosion of basic human rights.

“The President can deliver whatever version of events he chooses tonight,” said Rep. Watson Coleman. “My responsibility is to the people I represent. In New Jersey, families are worried about affording their groceries, about rising prescription drug costs and whether they will lose access to healthcare coverage that has become even more expensive after Republicans allowed the ACA subsidies to expire. While Americans are worried about putting food on the table, they also must worry whether their government is focused on their well-being or on harassing their Black and brown neighbors.

“What we are seeing from this administration is a pattern of distraction and distortion while working families continue to absorb the consequences. Americans are focused on affordability, access to care, and the safety of their communities and families. These are the issues that determine the real state of our union, and those of us who care deeply about our country will be standing together in solidarity to make sure everyone’s voices are heard.”

The Congresswoman will be joined by Nedia Morsy, Executive Director of Make the Road New Jersey, an organization that builds on the power of immigrant and working-class communities in New Jersey to achieve dignity and justice through community organizing, legal and support services, and policy innovation.

“Trump’s billionaire first agenda is fooling no one,” said Nedia Morsy. “Trump is making cuts to healthcare to funnel billions to ICE and surveillance contracts for companies like Palantir. In the face of such blatant greed and hatred, the American people couldn't be clearer - we stand united for an economy that delivers for all of us and a country where we protect our neighbors.”
