Wimberly Statement on the Passing of Former Assemblyman Albert Coutinho

TRENTON – Senator Benjie E. Wimberly (D-Bergen/Passaic) issued the following statement:

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Assemblyman Albert Coutinho this weekend. His loss is felt not only by those who had the honor of serving alongside him, but by the many communities he so faithfully represented.

"Albert and I served together on the Budget Committee, where he distinguished himself as a thoughtful, disciplined, and principled leader. As an alumnus Assemblyman, he exemplified the enduring truth that public office may be temporary, but a commitment to public service is lifelong. Even beyond his time in elected office, he remained dedicated to advancing the well-being of others.

“He was instrumental in championing meaningful initiatives, including his steadfast support for the revitalization of Hinchliffe Stadium, an achievement that will stand as part of his lasting legacy. Albert approached his work with both purpose and heart, always mindful of the people behind the policies.

“Beyond his public service, he was a devoted brother, a loyal friend, and a man of deep personal conviction. He also had a genuine passion for soccer, proudly supporting the Cosmos and looking forward with excitement to the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

“Albert Coutinho will be remembered for his integrity, his compassion, and his unwavering dedication to serving others. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
