Report: Former Senator Wayne Bryant Loses Bid To Regain Pension

Former Senator Wayne Bryant lost his bid to regain part of his pension that he forfeited after his conviction on corruption charges in 2008, according to a report in the Courier Post.

Having served a four year sentence on charges that included mail fraud, wire fraud, and corrupt payments, Bryant sought to restore part of his pension, arguing to a three-panel state appeals court that the loss of his full pensions was ‘wholly unwarranted’, according to the report.  The panel rejected his argument.

Bryant represented LD5 in the Senate from 1995 to 2008, and served as Chair of the Senate Budget Committee.  The corruption charges for which he was ultimately found guilty stemmed from a ‘no-show’ job he obtained at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and subsequently funneled over $10 million in state aid to the now defunct medical school.

UMDNJ was dissolved in 2013 and merged in with the medical schools at Rutgers University and Rowan University.
