Paterson Councilman Luis Velez Arrested on Breaking Restraining Order Complaint

Paterson's 5th Ward Councilman Luis Velez was arrested outside of a council meeting in Paterson, NJ, for allegedly violating a restraining order that was taken out against him by his wife.

According to an NBC report by Brian Thompson, Paterson 5th Ward Councilman Velez was arrested outside of last night’s council meeting for allegedly violating a restraining order taken out by his wife, according to a law enforcement source.  He had allegedly threatened his wife via a third party on a phone call.  According to the report, Velez was issued a summons and released.

Paterson Times reports that Velez wasn’t handcuffed when he was arrested at 8:20pm last night.

TAPinto Paterson spoke with the Councilman on Wednesday, reporting that ‘he is focused on continuing to serve the residents of Paterson because that, he believes, is the best way to “let light shine on the truth.”
