REPORT: White House Rescinds Federal Aid Freeze

BREAKING NEWS FROM CNN: The White House Office of Management and Budget has rescinded the federal aid freeze, according to a memo obtained by CNN from a Trump administration official.

“OMB Memorandum M-25-13 is rescinded. If you have questions about implementing the President’s Executive Orders, please contact your agency General Counsel,” the memo reads.

The White House budget office had ordered the pause on federal grants and loans, according to an internal memorandum sent Monday, which unleashed confusion and anxiety even as the White House said it was not as sweeping an order as it appeared.

Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Nellie Pou (D-9) and other Democrats criticized the Trump Administration’s freeze of all legal federal grants.

Pou decried the maneuver as a “blatantly illegal act that will imperil the lives of countless Americans and violates the separation of powers foundational to the Constitution.”

“In the dead of night, the Trump administration announced a gross power grab the likes of which we have never seen in the United States before,” said the North Jersey Congresswoman. “On a practical level, the illegal freezing of spending passed into law will threaten the lives of cancer patients, halt life-saving medical research, block aid to small businesses, and kill disaster relief, among countless immediate negative impacts. The suffering this illegal act will cause Americans will be catastrophic. Far from a measure to lower costs, this action will raise the cost of living for millions of families across the country. More broadly, what the administration is trying to do is nothing less than a complete subversion of Congress and a declaration of war on America’s very constitutional order. This illegal act must be struck down by the courts and opposed by elected officials across our political system, especially House Republicans who helped enact and fund these programs.”

One response to “REPORT: White House Rescinds Federal Aid Freeze”

  1. “This is NOT A rescission of the federal funding freeze,” Leavitt insisted in a post on X. “It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo. Why? To end any confusion created by the court’s injunction. The President’s EO’s on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented.”
