While widely respected (the ‘adult in the room‘, according to one insider during the budget battle earlier this year), the Cammarano pick was initially seen by some insiders as troubling in the context of Murphy’s need to forge relations with South Jersey Democrats. His stability in the front office was the subject of speculation going back to the budget battle. On the heels of Katie Brennan’s testimony before the Legislative Select Committee last Tuesday, the names of potential successors were already circulating, with Cammarano’s departure appearing imminent at that point.
