Sussex County Reports 28 New COVID-19 Cases, 2 Fatalities on Wednesday

(Hardyston, NJ) As of Wednesday April 1, 2020 the Sussex County Division of Health (SCDOH) was notified of 28 additional cases of COVID-19 among county residents as well as two fatalities.

The total number of cases of COVID-19 in Sussex County is at 165, an increase from 137 cases on Tuesday.

The town totals are as follows: Andover Borough (1), Andover Township (9), Branchville Borough (2), Byram Township (8), Frankford Township (7), Franklin Borough (7), Fredon Township (3), Green Township (2), Hamburg Borough (3), Hampton Township (3), Hardyston Township (9), Hopatcong Borough (17), Lafayette Township (1), Montague Township (1), Newton Town (22), Ogdensburg Borough (3), Sandyston Township (1), Sparta Township (28), Stanhope Borough (5), Stillwater Township (0), Sussex Borough (4), Vernon Township (16), Walpack Township (0), and Wantage Township (13).

Sussex County Freeholder Director Sylvia Petillo is saddened to announce two additional COVID-19- related deaths in Sussex County, the first in a 77 year- old male from Hopatcong Borough, and the second in a 73 year-old male from Andover Township. The Sussex County Division of Health (SCDOH) has been working with those individuals who came into contact with these patients. Those identified as close contacts are in their homes under selfquarantine and being monitored by the SCDOH staff.

The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Sussex County Division of Health extend their condolences to both patients’ families and friends during this difficult time. The SCDOH is taking all possible steps to ensure the health and safety of our community, and asks for the public’s cooperation in following all recommendations put forth by county, state, and federal agencies

The Sussex County Division of Health is the lead agency for investigation of confirmed cases of COVID- 19, which includes contact tracing. During case investigation, the SCDOH determines which persons are close contacts, as defined by the New Jersey Department of Health, and makes the appropriate recommendations to those individuals.
