Walker to Run for At-Large City Council Seat in Newark

Former At-Large Newark Councilwoman Bessie Walker wants her old job back.

The former at-large councilwoman picked up petitions earlier today to run for an at-large seat, as part of that fast-mobilizing opposition citywide group of Team Baraka rivals that includes Arigana Perello, Butchie Nieves, and Hector Corchado.

Walker in 2014 served as a member of Mayor-elect Ras Baraka’s transition team, overseeing independent authorities along with enduring Baraka ally Senator Ronald L. Rice (D-28). She was also a mayor’s aide for senior citizen’s affairs.

From 1998–2006 she served as an at-large councilwoman for the City of Newark.
