Assembly and Senate Joint Committee To Hold NJ Transit Hearing Today

The New Jersey Statehouse and Capitol Building In Trenton

On Friday, August 25th, the Assembly Judiciary Committee and the Senate Legislative Oversight Committee will hold a joint hearing to receive testimony from NJ Transit Executive Director Steven Santoro as well as other invited guests on agency practices, including on personnel.  Also expected to testify are Nancy Erika Smith, Esq. of Smith Mullin, P.C. and Ravi Sattiraju, Esq. of the Sattiraju Law Firm, P.C., both who have previously represented NJ Transit employees in discrimination lawsuits.

Judiciary Committee Chair John McKeon had issued subpoenas to NJ Transit last month, saying he had “real concerns that this stalling has been done with influence from Gov. Christie’s office, which is a question we need to have answered.  To that end, we are also seeking information on patronage hiring at the agency.”  McKeon and his Senate counterpart, Senator Bob Gordon, held a previous hearing in July.

The hearing will be in Committee Room 4 in the Statehouse Annex and is scheduled for 11am.  The Senate cancelled a planned voting session for 9am.

Live audio of the hearing will be streamed online at: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/media/live_audio.asp
