Atlantic County Reports 28 New COVID-19 Cases; 103 Cases Total as of Saturday

Atlantic County

On Saturday, April 4, Atlantic County health officials confirmed 28 more positive test results for COVID-19 among its residents but no additional deaths. The county reported its first and, at this time, only death related to the virus on April 2. These confirmations bring the total to 103 cases countywide.

“Like so many counties throughout the state, we continue to see an increase in confirmed cases, but we are encouraged by the report of 11 patients who have been cleared as recovered,” noted County Executive Dennis Levinson.

Atlantic County reported its first positive resident on March 18, approximately 2-1/2 weeks ago.

The 28 most recent cases included 12 men, ages 33 to 81 years old, and 16 females, ages 19 to 77 years old.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and help reduce the spread of the virus by staying home and practicing safe respiratory and hygiene habits as well as to follow the recommended guidance for social distancing.

The Centers for Disease Control has issued new guidance regarding face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Simple cloth coverings including scarves and bandanas worn in public settings where other social distancing measures may be difficult to maintain may help prevent the release of any virus-laden particles into the air. But health officials also cautioned that such coverings should not provide a false sense of security. Keeping a safe distance from others is still the best defense.

There is currently no vaccine or prescribed treatment for this virus. Those who experience mild or moderate symptoms such as fever, cough, aches and pains, are advised to stay at home, self-isolate and monitor their symptoms. Most recover within two or more weeks.

Individuals with more severe symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath, and who may have underlying health conditions including heart or lung disease, diabetes or a compromised immune system, should contact their medical provider.

Those who are concerned they may be experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are urged to use the Symptom Checker available on COVID19.nj.gov.

The statewide COVID-19 count as of Saturday April 4th is 34,124 cases and 840 fatalities, an increase of 4,331 cases and 200 fatalities since Friday.
