CD4 Flashpoint: Democrat Welle Laps Up Local Endorsements

Today, in a bid to smother rival James Keady for the Democratic nomination in a challenge to U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (R-4), congressional candidate Josh Welle received endorsements from three prominent area Democrats: Geri Jannarone, of the Brielle Democrats; David Kane of the Manalapan Township Democrats; and Ray Santiago, former chairman of the Freehold Township Democratic Club.

Geri Jannarone, Chairwoman of the Brielle Democrats, issued the following statement: “I’ve seen Josh on the campaign trail and I know what a dedicated leader looks like. He has strong convictions, he can lead a team, and he is a person of character. He is my choice for Congress in 2018.”

David Kane, chairman of the Manalapan Township Democrats, praised Welle’s local roots. “This district has had an absentee Congressman for over three decades. While Josh was growing up in Wall, he saw a congressman that ignored constituency needs. It’s time for a home-grown leader who will stand up for us in Congress. This is why I fully support Josh’s candidacy for CD4.”

In a statement, former Freehold Township Democratic Club Chairman Ray Santiago expressed confidence in Welle’s ability to lead. “I worked beside his father, a NJ attorney, for years. Josh grew up surrounded by public servants, and that is exemplified by his willingness to serve in the Navy after graduating Wall High School. His dedication to the nation is clear. I have no doubt he’ll make an excellent representative.”

Welle gladly accepted the endorsements.

“These local leaders inspire me and I’m glad to have their support during this important campaign. I’m excited to learn from other Democratic leaders throughout NJ’s 4th District and deliver a strategy to win in 2018. Let’s get to work. Let’s go!”

  1. Jannarone works for Parano & Assosciates, a consulting agency which the Welle campaign has contracted for this race. This should be disclosed.
