CD5 Flashpoint: On the Heels of Alabama Disaster, McCann Zaps Lonegan

Vying for the 5th Congressional seat currently occupied by U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-5), attorney John McCann went on the attack today against his Republican Primary opponent, attempting to see in the Alabama loss of Roy Moore crystal ball implications for former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan.

“Last night in Alabama we saw what happens when we run unacceptable candidates,” said McCann. The loss of another seat in the United States Senate compromises the ability to undo the damage done by the Obama administration. We need principled leaders who can pass conservative policies that would get America back on the right track.”

McCann pointed out that voters in both parties have repeatedly rejected Lonegan, who lost statewide elections in 2005, 2009, and 2013 and got buried when he ran for Congress in 2014 in the 3rd District.

“Our district cannot afford to nominate Lose-a-gan, Lie-a-gan Lonegan” said McCann. “His record of repeatedly lying and distorting the truth as well as his failed record as an elected official proves he is not the right candidate for Congressional District 5. Whether it is his lies about being endorsed by the NRCC or his horrendous statements about 9/11 first-responders and hurricane victims, Steve Lonegan has rendered himself toxic and unelectable.”

Lonegan was not immediately available for comment.
