Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1031 Endorses Brendan Gill for Congress

Today, Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill, candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, announced the endorsement of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1031 — the state’s second-largest union representing thousands of public sector employees across state, county, municipal, and higher education workplaces.

“CWA Local 1031 is proud to endorse our friend Brendan Gill for Congress,” said Kathleen Hernandez, CWA Local 1031 President. “Brendan is the candidate in the race that union members know will fight for them, here in New Jersey and in Washington, DC.”

“Brendan has always stood shoulder to shoulder with organized labor. As the son of a public school union member, he understands the challenges working families face and has spent his career fighting for them,” said John Polk, Secretary/Treasurer of CWA Local 1031. “Whether in a local contract battle or standing up to Donald Trump’s anti-worker agenda, Brendan knows how to win, and he does it with integrity and solidarity.”

“As the son of a proud union member I am honored to have the support of CWA Local 1031 and the thousands of hardworking public employees they represent,” said Brendan Gill. “I’ve seen firsthand how organized labor strengthens our communities, and I’ll bring that same fight for working families to Congress in Washington, DC.”

The endorsement from CWA Local 1031 adds to the growing list of unions supporting Brendan Gill’s campaign. They join the 6,000 members of the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA), the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council (HTC),  and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Local 108 (RWDSU Local 108) in backing Gill for Congress.

Brendan Gill is an Essex County Commissioner, lifelong New Jerseyan, and former senior adviser to Governor Phil Murphy, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Frank Lautenberg, and Congressman Bill Pascrell. A proud Montclair native, Gill has spent his career fighting for working families, quality public education, and safe, vibrant communities. He is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District to continue that fight in Washington.
