Democrat Luttrell to Run for Monmouth County Freeholder Seat

Democrat Lawrence Luttrell of Holmdel will run for the office of Freeholder in Monmouth County this year.

An attorney, Luttrell ran for a freeholder seat in 2014 and lost.

“When I ran for Monmouth County Freeholder four years ago, I campaigned on saving Monmouth $7 million each year by privatizing the county nursing homes and rooting out corruption.” Luttrell said. “Although the Republican Freeholder candidates opposed my plan, after the election they changed their positions. They did what the Democratic ticket pushed for because they saw how support there was for it.”

Luttrell is hoping to snag support this year for either the seat currently occupied by Republican Freeholder John Curley or the one vacated by Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso (R-13).

The GOP tomorrow will nominate Middletown Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger and Hazlet Deputy Mayor Sue Kiley to run countywide.

Curley will not seek the GOP nomination. He has not yet announced if he will run in the primary or run as an independent.
