DiVincenzo Backs Gill for Congress

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. this morning announced his endorsement of Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill of Montclair to fill the vacant District 11 Congressional Seat.
“This is a critical time in our country, and we need a representative in Washington who will be a strong advocate for Essex County and New Jersey and will fight to preserve and strengthen our rights and liberties. For the vacant seat in District 11, I am wholeheartedly endorsing Brendan Gill,” DiVincenzo said. “For the last 14 years, Brendan and I have worked together in County Government to revitalize our parks, preserve open spaces like the Essex-Hudson Greenway, modernize our infrastructure and stabilize County taxes. I know Brendan will bring the same passion and determination to Congress that he has given to Essex as a Commissioner. Join me in supporting Brendan Gill,” he added.
The County Executive noted Gill’s experience as an elected official and as a staff member of several federal legislators representing Essex County. He was first elected as the District 5 representative on the Board of Commissioners in 2011 before being elected as an At-Large member in 2014, a position he holds today. He also served three years as President of the Board of Commissioners from 2018-2020. He also has served as a Senior Aide to Senator Cory Booker, State Director for Senator Frank Lautenberg, District Director for Congressmen Bill Pascrell and Steve Rothman, and as Communications Director for the NJ Department of Transportation. He is a former member of the Montclair Planning Board.
“Joe D’s leadership has set the standard for results-driven government,” said Gill. “I’m honored to have his support. Joe has spent his career fighting for families, seniors, and working people – and that’s exactly the fight I will bring to Washington,” he added.
The Congressional seat became vacant when Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill resigned on November 20th after being elected Governor in the November 4th General Election. A Special Primary Election will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, and a Special General Election will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
