Dr. Adam Hamawy is the Congressman-Elect for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

A former Army combat surgeon, 9/11 first responder, and volunteer surgeon in war zones around the world, Hamawy has spent his life running toward the fire. We need his fearless leadership in Washington.

“Trump promised Americans he would end forever wars. While he continues to unleash chaos on the world stage, Dr. Hamawy understands the true cost of war. He has seen firsthand what happens when people are caught in conflict and cannot get the medical care they need. New Jersey families are already hurting after Republicans cut a trillion dollars from healthcare funding to give billionaires tax breaks. Now, Trump’s war is driving up the cost of gas, groceries and everyday goods.

“Dr. Hamawy’s victory tonight shows that voters understand what’s at stake. They want leaders who follow science and evidence not ideology, and have the courage to stand up when lives are on the line. Dr. Adam Hamawy is a veteran and former U.S. Army combat surgeon who saved Sen. Tammy Duckworth’s life. He was a first responder on 9/11 and has served with medical teams in combat and disaster zones including Iraq and Haiti, helping save hundreds of lives. Since completing his military service, Dr. Hamawy has spent the last decade building a successful medical practice in the Princeton area while continuing more than 30 years of volunteer medical service in overwhelmed hospitals, war zones, and disaster areas at home and abroad.
