Kean Update

FLORHAM PARK - Tom Kean Jr. will not attend the "Annual Washington Update" event of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce.

The May 28 event, as the name suggests, is a time for the chamber and its guests to hear about what's going on in D.C.

Kean's absence normally would not attract all that much attention. After all, members of Congress always have conflicts.

But the CD-7 congressman has been absent from Congress for a bit more than two months now, and his office has offered no specifics.

Kean did say in a statement two weeks ago that he plans to be back in action "very soon."

A message on the chamber's website about the May 28 event says the following:

"As you no doubt have heard, Congressman Kean will be unable to appear due to his ongoing health concerns.  We wish him well.

Our team is working to secure an alternate and will have an update as soon as possible."

The event at the Park Avenue Club will now have two speakers:

Micah Rasmussen, Director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics, and Michael A. Egenton, Executive Vice President, Government Relations, New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

Kean's status continues to be a hot topic among politicians, mostly because of the lack of information coming from his office.

Four Democrats are seeking the party's nod in the June 2 primary to run for the seat this fall.
