Kim Zaps Murphy

Today, Congressman Andy Kim’s campaign responded to First Lady Tammy Murphy’s first TV ad of the New Jersey Senate Democratic primary by reminding people she donated tens-of-thousands of dollars to Republicans who have worked for decades to weaken gun safety in New Jersey and across the country.

“Tammy Murphy stood by and donated to a Republican Party for 30 years that propped up the NRA and their extremist policies; trying to whitewash her record is deceptive politics at its worst,” said Kim campaign spokesperson Katey Sabo. “Congressman Kim has a record of delivering on standing up to the gun lobby that people can trust. Democratic voters know who’s been on their side, and they’ll see right through the deception from the First Lady’s campaign.”

Below is the real record of First Lady Tammy Murphy:

Murphy donated to the RNC which had a pro-gun platform

  • 10/31/2000: Tammy Murphy contributed $15,000 to RNC Republican National State Elections Committee. At the time, the Republican platform stated “we oppose federal licensing of law-abiding gun owners and national gun registration as a violation of the Second Amendment and an invasion of privacy of honest citizens.”
  • 9/13/2002: Murphy contributed $50,000 to the RNC Republican National State Elections Committee.

Because of donors like Tammy Murphy, George Bush outspent John Kerry and was re-elected and gave gun manufacturers immunity

  • 7/3/2003: Murphy contributed $2,000 to Bush-Cheney ’04 Inc. At the time, the 2004, Republican platform stated: “We applaud Congressional Republicans for seeking to stop frivolous lawsuits against firearms manufacturers, which is a transparent attempt to deprive citizens of their Second Amendment rights.

Sandy Hook Shooting: After the 2012 Sandy Hook Shooting, Tammy Murphy continued to vote for Republicans

  • In 2012, 28 students and teachers were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
  • Even after 2012, Murphy continued to vote for republican candidates in 2013 and 2014.

  1. Tammy Murphy’s craven fight to become Senator is constantly being blown apart by her own past political choices. She has little to offer in the way of new ideas or truly personal accomplishments. She thinks she can use old tropes to gain support, but that past is always there to magnify her record. Republican donor, Republican voter until at least 2014. Not the person we want representing us in the US Senate.
